360 to get Unreal Tournament III mods too

So what will 360 owners love about Unreal Tournament III?

Rein: It rocks. It's so much fun to play on console. There's a little bit of auto-aim like on Gears... what I like is none of our success on console has affected our games on PC. We have mods on UT for PlayStation3 and...

What about the 360 version?

Rein: To bring mods to 360, we're going to have to make some serious changes.

So you're not going to include them?

Rein: Oh, it's going to happen but 360 is a closed system so we have to work with Microsoft on that.

He also reveals that this is the reason that UT3 is delayed on the 360.

I kinda figured that would happen. I mean, the UT guys really treat their community well. I'm guessing that if a mod does well on the PC, Epic'll put it on the 360.

To be able to do mods on the 360, they have to get Microsoft's support for user content on Live.... that may be awhile. Sony is incredibly open as far as PSN goes, thankfully. That may just be Sony's defining bullet point for PSN. Until the moment Microsoft turns Live around, at least.

Cool. I'm looking forward to paying 800 M$ points for stuff that is free on the PC.

The trend so far seems to be that anytime a map pack comes on the PC it is free on the 360 as well. Has happened with Rainbow Six: Vegas and Lost Planet.

Epic pushes for free content on the 360 as well. I doubt they will back-down in that regard.

I think eventually MS will realize that $5 map packs isn't the strategy it's going to take to get the system profitable. If the 360 manages profitability in 2008 and it manages to keep that profitability, then I think that MS will be more relaxed with its marketplace pricing.

I'm of the opposite opinion. I like the fact that MS has content/standards requirements that must be met before anything is allowed on their network.

I'm likely going to get the PC version when it hits.
New Game Editor. The game will also feature the all-new Game Editor, guaranteeing new user-generated content in the future. The ?Gears of War? community will be able to tap its endless creative potential to develop an unlimited number of user-created levels through complete access to the Unreal Editor. Using the new engine, players can now import custom artwork into the engine, create particle systems, scripted encounters, cinematics and more.
That alone is enough to make it a must have. Besides, no way of knowing when the extra stuff will hit 360, and the 5 new campaign chapters screams buy me!

Between this and Crysis I foresee a PC upgrade coming around that time. I'll probably wait just long enough for reviews of Crysis here and elsewhere, to see what I need (aside from needing Vista for the heralded "best gameplay experience").

Mods on a 20gb (isn't it closer to 15gb?) HD? Let's just hope the mods aren't too big.

I guess that would apply to 20gb PS3 owners, too, though.

I don't see the HDD capacity being a problem.

I suppose not...it all depends on how many mods you want, how big they are (what type...I don't know what kind of mods will come out, or if they will all work on consoles), and how much stuff you already have on your HD. It could be potentially fine or not (more likely fine), depending on certain situations.
