360 Slim ... transfer data from "slim hdd" to new "slim hdd"??

Is this possible?

Basically my slim has my old decased 120gb drive from my Elite. Getting a new 250gb drive and I would like to move all my stuff from that 120gb to the new 250gb.

Is this possible?

The HDD txfer kit is for moving the data from the old style HDD to the unit itself not from a SATA connection to the unit -- correct?

And hooking up via USB would only allow it to see 16gb of the 120gb drive .. right?

The only cables I've seen have the connection for the old style HD case to be plugged into.

If you still have that case you might be able to put the drive back into it enough to at least do the transfer.

About the only other option I can think of would be to use a thumb drive to back everything up on & then put it on the new HD after you plu it in.

Yeah, I don't believe the Xfer cable works with the new slim models.

You could get a decent 16GB thumbstick and move all your vital game saves and stuff over that way and just redownload any DLC (or transfer via thumbstick).

I kind of figured this was the case.

Can't do the transfer trick as the case had to be destroyed to get my HDD out of it (torx screws had been messed with and were stripped).

BTW I should mention that the "slim HDD case" I got for my old 120gb came from a seller on ebay. His snap together vs the glue style and I gotta tell it worked perfectly and was only about $10. I mention this only because I have heard a lot folks complaining about the cheap crappy ones out there.

Even though you tore the old case up getting the HD out. I'd think all you'd really need is the part that connects to the HD & converts it to the plug that sticks out of the bottom of the case. The source HD just plugs into the xfer cable with the new drive installed in the xbox.

Isn't the Slim HDD just an SATA HD with a standard SATA plug? Couldn't you just use a SATA to USB adapter, and plug it into one of the Slim's USB ports?

I don't think seeing as the XBOX won't see more than 16gb. I have 60gb worth of crap on my drive.

I am not sure I have the "adapter" from the old case and I just realized that I cannot take the 120gb HDD out of the slim case I bought for it w/o completely destroying it. Hmmm probably not much I can do then except trying to back up as much as I can on a 16gb drive at a time and then put it on the new xbox drive.

It may not be too bad as the game saves and what not are probably not much more than 16gb and based on what I am reading DLC stuff can just be redownloaded to get it back on the new drive/system.

Woohoo ... Got home rooted through my trash can and found that little adapter from the old HDD casing!! Transferring data now (about 22gb worth of stuff)

Looks like I have to reinstall all my games back on the new drive as I don't think it transfers those items, bummer but not a problem.
