360 seems choppy

A buddy of mine has a 360, GRAW2, and he recently got a 4th controller. Naturally, my buddies and I all gather together there and play online. GRAW2 is good and all, and it runs well enough to play, but it doesn't seem entirely smooth. A round starts off silk smooth when everyone is running out of the base, then it slows down to 20-25 FPS. Since the 360 has a unified X1900/1950 (IIRC), it seems like it should be able to play pretty smoothly - my 6800 GS can play GRAW 2 at decent settings nicely. So, is this normal?

You're using 4-way split-screen?

It's a lot more work for the processor and video card to render 4 scenes at once than just 1.

That was my first thought as well. If the single-player game runs fine, but 4-player split-screen runs a bit choppy, that's just the limitations of the hardware. This is often why most games have reduced graphics in multiplayer modes than single player.

Its not just you, 4 way GRAW2 in HD brings the 360 to its knees. I noticed that after i play a few maps it tends to smooth out some though.

The thing is, we play on a regular SDTV - we don't have an HDTV available to us (at least, not in combination with internet). I would think that at such a low resolution, the 360 would have no problem rendering so much stuff.

hmm that reminds me...IIRC going from 720p, 1080i, 480p, made no difference in framerate...i assume its something specific to GRAW2, but not HD output specifically. i always noticed it the most on Hydrodam for some reason...

The 360 will render the game at whatever the default resolution is and then scale it, which I think is 720p for most of them. I don't think that even if its a lower resolution that it will render at that resolution, it will just scale it.
