Mine was a launch system, so I knew it was inevitable. Sucks though... I had just received Lost Odyssey today, get ready to fire it up, and bam... RROD.

Damnit :frown:

Death's embrace claims us all eventually.

Since Mass Effect is coming to the PC, I've decided to wait for Jasper, the "Really Reliable Edition" with 65nm GPU to go with the 65nm CPU in Falcon.

Shrinking the CPU and RAM had a big effect on power consumption, so along with fewer redrings it might also tame the noise a bit.

The Falcon that I had was really quiet compared to the old ones already.
Still locked up though. So I returned it.
Maybe they need to spin the fans a little faster.

What is this Jasper you speak of ? I haven't heard of that.

But if it is going to be another revision of the Box that will be reliable then I will buy one.

It's a die shrink for the GPU to 65nm, which will then match the CPU. Less power = less heat = less fail. I don't think it's expected before the autumn though.

Right, I'd read Fall too. It will also cut costs, which might mean another price drop.

While I'm dreaming, maybe they'll even build in the wifi and move to a 40GB hard drive :)

I'm in the same boat as you. My 12/05 360 bought it on Tuesday. It'll give me more time to spend my other consoles, but I did want to get in some more Culdcept Saga.

I've heard rumors that 2005 360s get better replacements than the 2006 ones, so we'll see how it works out, I guess.

I've had to replace a 2005 and a 2006. For the 2005, I got a refurb in its place. For the 2006, I got a brand new console.

Lucky you. I got refurbs on both of my systems. Doesn't matter as I'm thinking of, off loading one or both and getting the newer revisions, unless this rumor Opus revision is true then maybe just off load one of them. I could use an hdmi one.

Same here. I returned mine twice and got an older one each time. Now my third one gets the occasional disc read error. RROD coming soon I predict.

Lol i just got my 3rd unit back today. My original unit had a mfr date of 11/2006, then my 2nd unit had a mfr date of 12/25/2007... yes 2007, so it was only a month old before I sent it in again... and the replacement unit I just got today has a date of 6/4/2006!!!! That's older than my first unit, wtf man! :|

If I had a penny for every time I've read this scenario... :)

I feel for ya. I hope my 360 never RRoDs, but perhaps thats a fruitless wish.

I hear that it has only a 10% failure probability! That's 3x better than the current models! :p

Man that stinks! I just bought myself a 360 Halo Edition in January. I bought Halo 3 Legendary on launch day, but never bought a 360 because the Fall semester was killer for me. I knew that my grades would be toasted if I had one. :)

If my 360 ever fails, I'm going to sell the one I get back on eBay and go back to PC gaming. I got my Halo fix for a while, so I should be good until Halo 3 hits PC at least. ;)

Your launch box has lasted longer than any of my friends' did! Consider yourself lucky and fortunate to have made it this far.

For the hell of it, I turned it on again and it's working. The 3 red rings have disappeared, and games are working. At first, it was freezing up, but today I've played Lost Odyssey for a couple hours straight with no issues. Not sure what to do now

Just because you had red rings on your 360 doesn't mean it's the red ring of death. Any number of things can cause a different pattern of red rings.

I've had red rings on mine before and it was normally due to a loose cable.

Oh yeah, good point spidey - 4 red quadrants means the A/V cable is not plugged in, 3 red quadrants is the RRoD

From what I've read on the intarweb there are many different codes for various things. The RRoD is a very specific code of 3 rings in specific quadrants. I had 3 red rings once or twice and freaked until I read the code was "low power", the power cable wasn't firmly plugged in.

Unless it was all 4 quadrants or a situation like spidey07 described, I would be prepared to send it in again anyway. Having the system start working again isn't all that uncommon with the RRoD. But it always happens again a short while later.

I'm just afraid that now that it isn't red ringing atm, they're going to try and charge me for the repair. I've tried leaving it on for hours on end but none of the problems have occured since it started working again. And it wasn't the AV cable originally, that was one of the first things I checked.

If you get just one red light, it means you have a hardware failure. (DVD drive, motherboard, connectors, etc).

If you get 3, it's usually an overheating issue. RRODs usually occur when the console's been on a while and poor ventilation or dust usually is a factor.

The error system is a little weird because they tried to use lights to make the problems easier to diagnose. If you keep your 360 cool and out in the open where it can breathe, you may not see the issue again....
