360 Red Ring Warranty question

Ok, so here's the story:

On August 8th I bought a gamestop refurbished console from their online store.

I think red rings are 3 year warranty and that the system hasnt even been out three years
but it was a "gamestop refurbished" so i dont know if MS will warranty it.

When I purchased the unit I thought that it had a 90 day warranty (i bought it 85 days ago)
but then i went to gamestop's page, and see NOTHING about the warranty.

I've written gamestop an email, but they've yet to respond.

What do you guys think?

UPDATE AND RESOLUTION

I went to Gamestop yesterday with the unit and the reciept. I explained to the (very nice) woman there exactly what happened. She said that she couldn't do a replacement since it was after 30 days. What she could do, though, was buy the unit back from me for $160 and I could use that towards a new Xbox.

i paid 190 for this one refurbished in August, so the difference is 30 bucks, plus the new arcade models have HDMI, which is kinda cool.

BUT as she was checking me out she said, uh oh, i need to take 50% off becuase it isn't working, so she was only going to give me $80. That made the whole thing much less palpable. I said, please, you know the whole situation. Can't you waive that?

She was the assistant manager, and the lead person in the store, but she said she'd have to call the real store manager. After 10 min, she came back with an approval to go ahead and waive the charge.

So it worked out ok.

BUT x 2....

I finally got an email back from Gamestop (which took them 3 days, which is pretty lame) and they said they were sending me out a UPS box and they'd replace the used one with another used one. This is completely opposite of what i was told by them on the phone and then later in person in the store. So really i had no way to anticipate that especially after them lagging. But i guess its still nice of them.

Thats my story

Just call MS. They don't even ask when you purchased the console.

I should add that when you buy a gamestop refurbished console, the back of the unit has one of those stickers that says "Gamestop-void if removed"

But it isn't the MS one...its a gamestop one.

I'm worried that MS wont fix it because of that...

That I can't answer. I'd try Gamestop first and if they don't bite, take the sticker off and try MS.

Its broken already, the worst they can do is send it back to you saying they cant fix it. What else are you gonna do with it?

Edit: Does that mean that MSs seal is no longer there?

Well I sent in my 360 that had the RROD, and had been opened, and didn't even have a warranty sticker on it at all.

I got it back today and I haven't tested it out yet, but from the package and everything and the note they sent with it, it looks like they fixed it no problems. I can't test it till I get home though.

I hate them all.

No. I will as a last chance effort, but gamestop said specifically that they cant even refer me to ms because the warranty is void because they opened it.

If i call MS should I tell them the truth that its a gamestop refurb??

There is only one warranty seal. Its in the front under the faceplate.

If there's Microsoft sticker there, then you'll be fine. If that gone they you're out of luck. If its still there call up MS. they'll ship you a box. just remove anything that says gamestop on it.

Yep. As I said earlier, MS doesn't bother to ask when or where you purchased the console (at least they didn't with me).

I think (i'll have to check when i get home) that gamestop took off the MS seal when the "refurbished" the unit.

I've read several instances of people who have sent in their console after they, themselves, removed the warranty sticker because they tried to fix the issue themselves. They all have had their consoles fixed with no problem. Knowing that, I sent mine in about two weeks ago.

There's no harm in requesting the package (it's free) and shipping it (it's free). Who knows, you may be surprised.

Only a 30 day warranty through gamestop on a console that they refurbed? Man I hope that there's one hell of a discount on those for the 360. I sure hope that MS will fix the problem for the op. If MS won't I sure would be firing off a letter to GameStop corporate.
