Well my 360 PSU fried, again....
I'm scrounging through ebay to find another one. Isn't there 2 types though? An old version and a new version? I know I have an old one as my 360 is one from the original rollouts. I'm not sure how to make sure one off of ebay is the "old" version though... I dont recall what the difference(s) are.

That's also the loudest and most likely to overheat.

Loud? do you put your ears up to the psu or something.

but anyhow if he has the launch models there's not much he can do.

He can't go plug in the 175w or the 150w ones. It won't work nor would it even fit.

the only differences that I can remember of the 203 watt ones was one had a metal connector and one with a plastic connector and with and without a grounding prong.

I recall trying to use a newer PSU about a year ago from an Arcade and the plug itself into the back of the console unit was slightly different. You physically couldn't plug it in...

His 360 didn't die. The power supply (aka power brick) did.

Yup. And if his PSU failed on the PS3 he'd have to get a whole new console. Thankfully MS was smart enough to have an external PSU that can be easily replaced.

If you're having a problem with your 360 PSUs torching themselves, I'd seriously consider checking out your wall outlet to make sure the voltage is correct and not fluctuating.

Definitely make sure you have a power conditioner and that it is functional. I would keep the brick off the floor where more crap can get in it and clog it up too. Especially if you have pets, hair/fur could clog it up and possibly make it overheat. I occasionally blow some air through them.
