So I need a credible threat to blackmail the UN. I have a friend who can get me a great deal on old US submarines, so I was wondering...do I get this or this?

Typical countries I blackmail:
France
Italy
China
Mexico

Sure, the ability to launch nuclear missiles is a plus...but that might be pushing my luck a little far, plus there's the cost of operating the thing.

What do you think?

Go with the boomer (ohio class) -- even if you don't get nukes, you can rig a cruise missile launcher, and we know how feasible the construction of cruise missiles is.

You could actually be a fairly credible rogue threat to coastal cities like that. The only issue is supply ports, but w/ a nuclear reactor you'd have plenty of potable water, air and propulsion for a year. If you had some extra fuel, you could get the entire planet sweating bullets, but you'd need a source of food (can't just fish, you need veggies and fruits -- perhaps a hydroponic bay).
