I have a 17" Samsung, 1280 x 1024 max. resolution. I'm thinking of hooking up my 360 to it with the VGA adapter cable.

Too small or what?

Depends on personal preference and how far you will be sitting from monitor. If you are used to using a 17" LCD and your are up close to it like with a PC, then it should be fine for you. Keep in mind that because of the 360's 16:9 format you will have bars on the top and bottom. At least you get to play at native resolution, the 1280 width of your LCD perfectly matches the 1280x720 output of the 360. Well, most of the time, some games run at less than 720p.

Why would he have bars? That rez is supported and the 360 would scale accordingly.

Yeah it'll be fine. Just get a VGA cable for it (Monoprice sells one for cheap) and hook it up. I wouldn't use such a small monitor for anything other than gaming at a desk though. I game at my desk on my 32" TV because it's a bit too small when I'm on the couch (though the couch is fine for when I'm watching a movie or something).

I gave it a try, looks good with Batman AA but the dashboard is now cut off. Guess I need widescreen?

Going to try Forza, I'm digging the HD quality but I'm coming from a 20" flat screen CRT with excellent black levels.

I've played on a 19inch 4:3 monitor. The game's resolution was converted to 4:3 but I don't remember what the dashboard did. from what I remember, It didn't bother me and was a satisfactory and more mobile experience than my 46inch wall mounted tv :D

After getting a $1.99 vga cable from hong kong on ebay (even had the optical out for my Tritton's) I hooked mine up 6 months ago and after tweaking the resolutions it still didn't look right. After some fiddling I found a setting for the black levels and set them to "advanced" it was a drastic improvement comparable to going from SD to HD.

Been running great on my 19" dell lcd computer monitor ever since (non widescreen).

To maximize resolution and maintain aspect ratio. If you set the 360 to 1280x1024 most games will be displayed at 1280x720 with black bars on the top and bottom to maintain aspect ratio. It technically is 1280x1024 but 1280x304 of those pixels are black. It depends on the game, some may cut down the horizontal resolution to achieve 4:3 aspect ratio and then blow up the whole thing to fit the screen making it look like crap.

I played my 360 for a good year on a 19" LCD. Works fine. You'll probably be more annoyed at the aspect ratio than anything else.

Thanks to everyone for the input! I'm so impressed with the level of detail, compared to the CRT that is like a new experience. Joker's hair in Batman AA and other little details. I'll either live with this monitor or upgrade to a 24" widescreen, which can be had for $200.

I am using my 21.5" 1080p monitor to play at my desk now. I liked playing on the 61" in the living room more, but now I don't have to fight for the tv. and worry about being loud or waking the kiddos.

I am really wanting to get a decent 32" 1080p tv cheap though to replace the 21.5" monitor. The best deal I have found so far was a Toshiba for $399. If I could sell my 21.5" monitor for $120, that would offset the cost.

i've been playing on 50" DLP since 360 launched, but recently found out my TV has video lag.

so i went out and bought a 23" LCD that is "lagless" and is used in the biggest SF4 tourneys.

i like it a lot and i also like how i can watch football and game at the same time :D
