They either upscale at the end or render to the frame buffer at 1920x1080. They claim they will do both (up to devs). Of course most TVs do not accept 1080P via component so 98% of the 360 owners will never care. I use VGA on a 1080P monitor and it should work fine. I expect the whole thing is just PR to take a jab at Sony, MS doesn't have to deliver anytime soon.
Check the AVS forums for tons of discussion it's been beatin to death.
Chances are, it will simply upsample the low-res games and run some sort of blend algorhythm to display them at "1080p".
I would imagine that it would be possible for games to be produced to run at that resolution, perhaps with some effects reduced or turned off. Either that or HD-video clips.
peter moore clearly said "NATIVE 1080P" so if you can find a way to prove it has been upscaled you could sue him/microsoft for false advertising and give yourself a nice payday.
I wonder if 1080i will be generated from the unscaled native 1080p render or if it will still be upscaled from a 720p render? I wouldn't mind having a choice given potential framerate concerns.
