You have to have the disc anyways to play games installed on to the hard drive.

I have some games that are totally scratched up. Like left 4 dead. someone decided to tilt the 360 when it was spinning scratched the game the hell up.

couldn't install it at all. I had to rent another copy to be able to install.

If you have a Hollywood video in the area you can take the disc to them and have them resurface it for a few bucks. Cheaper than renting the game AND your copy now works.

Just FYI, I had a game that couldn't be fixed w/ resurfacing. It was a deep circular scratch from the 360 moving a tad and it never started again. It was cleaned until not a blemish could be seen on the thing... and then some. Point is that there's no guarantee Hollywood video will work, but it's worth a shot.
