i hooked my 360 controller into the usb and windows 7 installed drivers... but it doesnt show up in device manager? im trying to play call of duty with it but dont see any options, anyone use one when they game?

let the magic of google guide you in your quest...

You have to buy the right adapter not the play and charge kit...

You either need to use the wired 360 controller or if you have a wireless one you need the Wireless Adapter to play. The wireless 360 controller sends no info over the play and charge cable.

Yep, I use the 360 wired controller for my NHL PC game. I just plugged it in and it worked. I never tried to use it for my FPS games though.

If you go to "Devices and Printers" it should show up instantly when you plug it in. No need to press any buttons. It shows up just as "Controller" with the icon. It does not specifically say "Xbox" or "360"

You can't play call of duty with a controller. and why would you when you have a mouse and keyboard.

I have not had any problem playing through any FPS with controller yet. Sure, you cant turn as quickly as with a mouse. Though when you learn how to use a controller properly, you can do quite well with one. I use controller or mouse equally. I just think that most pc gamers look down on their use as a matter of fact, without ever trying to use one. Or just because they are considered to be "consoles only".

I dont think that a controller is inferior to a keyboard and mouse. Neither do I think a controller to be better than a mouse and keyboard. It is mostly a matter of how the game is designed to be used with either.

That said, most FPS on the pc are made to be used with mouse and keyboard. So I can see why few would try to use a controller if all they play are FPS games.

I've never had to do more than just plug it in.

If you run joy.cpl (or search for set up usb controllers in Win7 start menu) does the controller show up in there?

It should show up in Control Panel > Devices and Printers, if it is a _wired_ controller. For the wireless one you need a special receiver to be able to use it on your pc. Also, I dont know which call of duty it is you are talking about, so I dont know if it has native support for the controller. I know black ops do have support.

Why would you do this? Use the mouse and keyboard, that's the whole point of playing on a PC.

AFAIK the PC version won't have the aiming assistance that the console version does

well i play it on 360 and i dunno but its hard for me to use a mouse and keyboard to game.. im way better using the controller. i found out my problem it wasnt the wired controller it was the wireless controller with the charge cable i didnt even look till yesterday i asked my girlfriends brother if he had one and thats what he brought me...
