I have a 24" LCD hooked up to my 360. I'm also using an HDMI cable. What mode should I set it to so I get the best picture? The AA in MW2 looks like shit and was wondering what I could do to improve it or am I stuck with that?

Consoles have no settings you can change to improve how it looks other than setting the resolution your LCD supports in the display menu.

the double post is strong in this thread.

Try the optimal res, and if that isn't what you want, try all the others a pick the best one.

The native resolution of the LCD is 1080, I'd set the Xbox to that and let it handle the scaling, instead of it scaling it and then your LCD scaling it as well. Since its not rendered at 1080p, it will still show jaggies and whatnot, but it should be about the best you can get.

Here's the thing: console gaming isn't pc gaming.

For one, a lot of games are rendered at 720p or less (and then upscaled). It really doesn't make a whole lot of difference between the 720p and 1080p setting. You'll get a higher res menu, but that's about it (that and 1080p video content). But strictly from a gaming perspective, you wont see a difference between 720p and 1080p.

Second, AA isn't really present on consoles, at least not on a wide scale. A good majority of games will have jaggies, and that's just the way it is. A lot of people won't notice the jaggies on a 40in TV while sitting on a couch a few feet away. You will notice them, however, on a 24in monitor just a foot away. Textures are also much lower than PC games.

The truth of the matter is, if you're going to do console gaming on a pc monitor, you're gonna have to lower your standards a little bit, because it simply won't look as good as you think it will.

If the monitor doesn't have an actual HDMI port, just use an HDMI to DVI cable instead. They both do the exact same thing for video. The only difference is that DVI doesn't output sound (and is much larger than HDMI physically). You'll have to find some way to output the sound elsewhere.

Also, set the resolution on your 360 to 1080p. That's what the monitor supports natively.

However, some games are rendered at a lower resolution, like 720p. I believe some games are rendered even lower.

jaggies are brutal on console compared to pc. i dont care how far you sit from your tv, its really bad.

will next gen consoles start using more AA? I hope so!

alright. so me selling my current LCD for an LCD that has an HDMI port won't be worth it?

ask yourself how long ago the 360 was released and you'll have your answer.
