I started dumping 3 DvDs worth of data into my MySQL db late saturday night. I just passed 36 million records (started with 8 million), and probably have about 4 days left to go. I'm still getting good query performance :D Very simple queries, on indexed fields of course.

And yes, it gets dumped, and backed up to tape every night!

You'll probably get a much more receptive response at /. than here (alot more geeks over there).

Meh ... this might be a /. worthy story when the service goes live. But true geeks probably aren't all that impressed with a mere 37 million records. That's what I was told by a "true geek" over lunch today.

Ah well. I'm excited. Maybe I'm just easily amused :p

What kind of service...involving some kind of satellite records?

Yea ... can't go into it to much at the moment. Hopefully in a few weeks.

edit ... 38 Million ... the last few years don't have as much unique data as I had expected.

Well, it finished up just shy of 39 million records (38995722 currently). Turned out to be alot of duplicate data in the last few years.
The DB receives several hundred new records a day, so it's still growing.

Are you under the impression that MySQL is some kind of fantastic database management system or something?
