I hate BS responses like this....granted this is off topic from the original thread but they are suck compared to what exactly?? a high end aftermarket stereo that costs a good deal more?? please...I would take a nice factory Bose system over my piece of crap ford Audio system any day of the week....sometimes I think people like to bitch simply because it is Bose or because they are "into" high end aftermarket audio ...in reality for most people the Bose car audio setups are pretty darn good and much better than other offerings on the market, especially given the cost is at most a $500 upgrade unless it comes standard with the car.

And yes I have had aftermarket systems before and was very much into high end car audio, my old system wasn't that expensive (only cost about $3,000 installed)....but anyone who compares higher end aftermarket to anything factory is just silly IMHO, personally I will never waste the time or money upgrading from factory again as you recover none of the cost when you sell, it makes your car more of a target for theft, and you have to work to find a good installer or do it yourself unless you want a shoddy wiring job especially for the higher end stuff....my car was stolen because of the stereo right after I gave it to my brother, and there were four break in attempts when I owned it...
yeah, because thats only, say, $500 that could go to something better. sorry, i don't feel like wasting my money.

I though the tranny and engine were shared with the Maxima? It's been a proven design, I doubt it'd be common to fail within 1000 miles if that is the case.

The tranny isn't shared. Its an all new 6-spd tranny.

Fun fact, the 6-spd tranny on the Sentra SE-R is the same unit as the one in the new Tiburon. Which means that the helical diff from the SE-R can be slapped into the Tibby.

The Bose system DOES suck. Initially the Bose systems were so bad most people didn't even listen to them due to the overwhelming bass and the volume fluctations. I believe Nissan released a TSB for this, but there were quite a few Z owners who took it upon themselves to remove the volume adjuster from their systems.

Since The G35 has the same engine, does the G35 also has this transmission problem?

the reason Nissan was able to keep cost downs for the Z (MSRP is $27k correct?) is because the engine used in it is just a tweaked version of the one they use in most of their other vehicles, they mass produce them, hence lowering costs. so if it were an engine prob i would assume it would happen in their other vehicles. but again this isnt an engine prob its a tranny one...

Like what Elfenix? who makes a factory car audio system that is really any better?? JBL?? I personally don't think so, if anything they are on the same level...or are you talking about aftermarket?? most people don't want to deal with aftermarket shops and after experiencing it myself I also will never bother with it again unless you are only talking about the head unit which might be worth the expense but I would rather have a half decent factory HU than bother with aftermarket....or do you consider "something better" something other than a stereo...you have to remember that with most of these cars there is no fee for the Bose system, rather it is standard.

Almost ironic since Bose is usually critiqued for not providing enough bass...either way any system could have had the same problem and it was resolved via a TSB....to go so far as to say it "sucks" IMHO is a little extreme....again offer a better alternative for a factory system and then if there is one why isn't anyone using it?

I was poking around on the Z.com site's forums and found a couple of complaints about the greasy window problem and also some about paint chipping issues. Only saw one post about a transmission problem where a transmission gasket or seal had let go and fluid was dripping out of the tranny. If unnoticed that could be a cause of transmissions failing, but it was only one person, and they said they could smell something burning so it would definitely be noticed before the transmission failed. I found the site I had been looking at and I guess there aren't that many transmission complaints as I thought. One reviewer said their car plus 3 others from that dealership had to have transmissions replaced. And one other reviewer had their's replaced due to noise it was making. You guys can check out the reviews if you like.

Sounds like first year model blues. Always best to wait until the vehicles second year so they get most of the kinks worked out, IMHO.

The HK system that comes with I know at least the E46 is superior, imo. It used to be about a $500 option. The factory system on my '98 Accord V6 EX is superior as well, imo. Also, the factory (non-Bose) system in the Z is beyond horrible.

I love my Z, but it sure as hell isn't for the stereo. I'd upgrade it if I wasn't so concerned about taking off all the panels. Someone posted a how-to on my350z a while back, so I might give it a shot....
