I'm going to be building a P4 system soon, and I need some advice about how much $$$ to spend on a power supply. It's going to be a P4 2.4/2.6C with 512-1gb of PC3200, GF4 Ti4200 128 meg, a 7200 rpm hd and dvd/cdrw. Is 350W enough for that kind of setup? I'm looking at either a 350W or 430W Enemax and I don't want to buy much more than I really need, but I also don't want to run out of power one day when I put another hd in or something. TIA

Yeah, I agree. Just make sure you get a good one from Antec, Enermax, Enlight, Fortron, Sparkle, Topower or HEC.

I running a better setup with more parts on a 220w psu. It's not about quantity, it's about quality.

I bet a quality 250 could handle that basic setup... ediit: didn't see that was stated above.

Its the LED's, fans and extra HDD along with some serious overclocking that pull the power...

i'm also wondering if 350W is enough..

barton 2500@3200
abit nf7-s rev2
1x512 crucial pc2700
2 SCSI oldskool 4x plexwriters
1 SCSI plextor 40x cdrom
1 floppy
3 maxtor HDDs (40gb, 60gb, 80gb)
sb live platinum with live drive thingy

hope i haven't left out anything or listed anything unnecessary.. what do u guys think??

PS: i'm trying to decide between thermaltake 420W w0009r and antec smartblue 350w. both could be had for about $50, but i'd be more comfortable with the antec brand, if it's safe, know what i mean?

Antec should be a safe bet...

I am running the following on a Sparkle 350watt...

1700+@ 2.4ghz 1.775v
1 gig PC 3200
Radeon 9500 Pro
2 - Optical drives
1 - 80 GB WD
1 - 40 GB Maxtor
3 - Case fans, 1 which has an LED.
2 - Cold cathodes
And two LED strips down the front of my case....

Have you got the specs of either of those PSU's...they should be okay...

my 350W supplied 28A on the +3.3V, 16A on the +12V and 35A on the +5V....and I have

Barton 2500+ (varying speeds between 2500 to 3000+, tried 3200+ for a while too)
MSI Nforce2 K7N2 Delta
1x Crucial PC3200 512mb
2x Lite-ON Optical drives (48x CD-R & 16x DVD)
Floppy
2 HD's (Maxtor + WD, both 7200rpm)
SB Live 5.1
5 Fans
GF4 MX440

So you may be okay but you have a couple of extra bits in there on me....providing you have good outputs then you may be okay with the Antec....otherwise maybe it might be worth considering the 420W one if you are going to overclock the Ti.

Hey, if you are planning to overclock to 3200+, I would go for PC3200 over PC2700 ;)
