3500miles...that's all I got out of my rear tire

Went riding yesterday on a long trip, about 300 miles out, around, and back. On our last gas stop, I was looking at my rear tire which was looking pretty worn when I noticed some chords peaking out at me along with the extreme wear down the middle and very small chicken strips on the side. The tire in question is a Shinko 05 Advance Radial and was a good tire. It's lifespan was a pretty short 3500 miles (bought at around 3300, at 6800 now) but considering that I haven't been using the bike for commuting (3 nails in my first rear put a stop to that) and my weekend riding has been really hard on it, what with me trying to keep up with 600, 750, and liter sportbikes. I'd say that it performed admirably and that it lived a twist life.

That said, I can't wait to trade up to that Triple R. I love the GS, but getting left behind whenever there's a straight away gets really frustrating sometimes, especially since I can either hang or gain in the corners with most riders in my group. That extra 50 HP and 15 ft-lbs of torque will be greatly appreciated, along with the better suspension, and broader powerband.

Chords and chicken strips. Are we talking about tires or something else?

Yea, we're talking about tires. Specifically the rear tire on my 07 Suzuki GS500F. Bought it with 2100 miles on July 6, took delivery on the 11th. As of yesterday it was just a couple miles past 6800, giving me a total of 4700 miles in 5 months of riding. I replaced the tires about 1100 miles in because I found a massive carpenter's nail sticking out the rear tire. Probably a good idea too since the tires looked like they were starting to dry rot.

I guess I'll call up the shop and get them to order a new rear of the same make and model and get it installed this weekend/friday afternoon.

Yea, cords and chicken strips (or the lack thereof) is delicious 🙂

CORDS!!!
Why are more and more people not getting cord and chords correct?
Chords refer to musical notes, and mathmatical graphing ect. strings, ropes, cables and such are cords. Like power cords. Network cords.

Sorry about the rant, but someone here labeled all the bins that hold power cords and video cords, CHORDS.

About the subject of tires. Motorcycle tires when ridden hard won't last a long time.

Fixed. I'm sorry. It won't happen again.

Yea, it's been a hard 3500miles.

I have 14k miles on my bike and I'm on my third rear tire and second front tire. I anticipate having to replace both of them again before this summer.

Motorcycle tires just don't last very long.

But if the cord had separated from the circumference and was pulled tight between two points it would be a chord too. 😀

Get yourself a touring tire. The Pilots with the hard center and soft sides sound good, might go a little longer at least.
