Hey,

Toms hardware has a great video where they run a 3.0Ghz HT P4 processor against a 3.6Ghz P4 without HT. It shows how much faster the 3.0Ghz HT is. My question is, how would that HT P4 compare to the AMD 3000+ and 3500+ and stock speeds?

hmm....

thanks,

depends on what you mean by faster? If you mean multitasking, HT probably makes the P4 faster, but anything else A64 wins hands down (especially gaming).

yeah, my A64 seems WAY faster overall than the piece of crap HP computers at work, and they have 3.2GHz P4s in them, so i imagine a 3500 would crush a 3.0GHz HT P4. Still, if you do lots of CPU intensive multitasking, like DivX encoding while using autocad or something like that, I'm sure the HT helps quite a bit. In office productivity, though, the P4 with HT doesn't feel any faster to me, even when running multiple apps. I plan on sticking with my A64 3000+ until dual core, and throwing in one of those bad boys in my PC once they get cheap, i.e. sub-$200. a REAL dual core system will be way better than a VIRTUAL dual core system, any day.
