I currently have a KN9 SLI rig with a 3500+, 6600gt, 2gig.

Its gettin a little (well a lot) long in the tooth and I was thinkin about pickin up a
5000+ BE for 99 bucks at newegg and overclock it if my motherboard is any good for that.

Does that make sense for general use? I use firefox, photoshop, office etc.. Or is it pretty much intel or bust right now? I know I need a new graphics card but I'll do that when I play a game besides source.. or maybe I'll just pick up that 2900pro for 135AR at newegg also...

thanks

It makes a lot of sense. It's a very cheap, huge shot in the arm in terms of performance.

My Heatware is under RaptureMe plus there are quite a few people around here that can vouch for me as I have been selling alot here on the forums lately.
I can take payments through paypal so let me know.

I have heard nothing but good things about the 5000+ BE. It overclocks well from everything I have read. Switching from a 3500+ to an X2 4200+ didn't really seem to make much of a difference to me, except I don't get any of those annoying slowdowns when something is loading in the background. (They run at the same speed and have the same amount of cache). For $99 it is a great upgrade, especially if you want to overclock it. Even if you don't, it is already a faster chip, and it is dual core.
