350 watt Enermax'whisper' had to lose a fan

🙂How enermax got the idea to call there 2 fan 350 watt psu whisper is beyond me,I took out the 92mm fan and the noise was cut by more then half, now its bearable .

🙂Rkonster I was absolutely monitoring the cpu temp and believe me it has not gotten higher ,it actually is running at exactly the same temp idle 33-35c load 46-48c and I'm running my 1.8a at 140 fsb @ 1.55 volts so as you can see my cooling on cpu is fine, I thought it might raise it a degree or two but seeing is believing, exactly the same as before .😉 I also checked with my supplier this fan { the one I removed} is designed more for an AMD system and has no bearing on the PSU temp .

I hope it's cooling enough , I really don't know , there is alot of 350 watt psu with only one fan on them so I hope it will.:

You sure you have the temp-controlled fan model? I have the 430 Watt version and I can barely hear it.

🙂Oh yes nutbucket it is the temp controlled model , it has the little sensor that i have hanging in the case: update put 92mm fan back in as I don't want psu to fail for heat reasons , translated , I don't want to buy a replacement if it failed .😉

Well, it could be that you're drawing enough current out of that unit to kick up the fans. That's my best guess. I know I have far more then I need with that 430 W unit which is prolly why it doesn't even get warm.

I don't think only having one fan would matter. Like you said, plenty of 350's have only one fan. And I doubt the Enermax puts out more heat than any other 350 watt PS because the efficiency is related to how many corners were cut on the design and you wouldn't think any were cut on an Enermax. (of course, there are higher grade power supplies possible but they would cost hundreds of dollars.)

I'll might draw some heat (no pun intended) for this, but I have a 500W PSU that I got from CompUSA one weekend in desperation when my Enlight bit the dust. The PS has two fans and believe me they were louder than my, at the time, stock V7. I pulled the plug on the intake fan of the PSU and my temps went up 1 degree. I have monitored the air flow from the back of the PSU and it is almost cool and it is now VERY quiet.

Keep in mind that just because a PSU is rated at 350W or 500W doesn't mean it is going to run at that load all the time. If it isn't cranking out a full load it won't be cranking out a lot of heat, which is one reason I went with the overkill 500 Watt job.

Right, but if you draw 300W from a 350W unit vs. 300W from a 500W unit chances are the 500W unit is going to run cooler b/c it is designed to output more. Any sort of transformer is going to output only what is being drawn from it anyway.
