My Sony 17in Monitor crapped out on me two days ago so i am forced to buy a new monitor

I have a budget of of around $400 to spend and right now i am looking @ any good 19in CRT (from dell) or the KDS Rad-5

What do you guys think?

BTW Can anyone recommend a good 19in CRT for under $400 total?

Thanks!

edit ** i am an avid FPS gamer**

One of THE BEST 19" CRT's is the Dell P991 for $296.65 from Dell Small Business, they've significantly lowered the price (mine cost $500 back in October 2000) and now it comes with a 3 year warranty standard!

This beats the Sony CPD-G400.

Damn that's an even better price than I thought Dell Small Business is currently offering 15% off Dell branded monitors, FREE SHIPPING and you can save an additional 2% if you order through eBates.com

Dont waste your time and money on that kds-rad5 lcd, it had a horrible refresh, you would never be able to play any sort of game on it with out wanting to push the thing off your desk.

I would second that dell p991, you might even be able to find a factory refurb 21" on ebay for around the same price, from my experience they have always been in outstanding condition, shipped out in dell packaging with a 90 day warrenty... or some sort of warrenty. I sit in front of a bunch of the 21" versions all day and I must say that it is one of the best crt's that I have ever seen.

The Dell P991's are sweet monitors but like most CRTs they're a beast on your desk, in terms of footprint and weight. But damn the picture is sooooo beautiful, sharp, refresh rates are nice. How can you beat an AG Trinitron for under $300 shipped, FREE shipping and 3 year warranty? You can't.

<< sniff why cant the shell be black, all i want is a black system >>

I don't know if they have them for this price, but Dell does make black versions of this monitor.

I was also looking @ P992 ... it is about $60 more .... is it is simply the black version of P991 or does it have better specs ... in your opinion is it worth the extra $60 ?

<< Anyone with the Dell Trinitrons....

Are the really hot?

My KDS Trinitron is super freaking hot at the top vents!

I just turned mine on and it's not hot at all. I'll let you know tonight after it's been on for about 2 hours.

Sorry I don't know the answer to that question. How are the specs different?

Here are the specs for the p922:

Aperture Grille Pitch 0.24-0.25mm

Deflection Angle 90degrees

Phosphor Type P22

Faceplate Coating AR Coating

Horizontal Scan Range 30kHz to 107kHz (automatic)

Vertical Scan Range 48Hz to 170Hz (automatic)

Optimal Preset Resolution 1024 x 768 @ 85Hz

Highest Preset Resolution 1600 x 1200 @ 85Hz

Highest Addressable Resolution* 1920 x 1200 @ 75Hz

at work... we only use dell systems.

so even though my computer is real ancient...
it has a nice 17inch dell trinitron.

i know it's not a 19 or 21 incher...
but the quality and clarity is definately there.
🙂
