350-400 watt PSU

Hey All,

I am building a socket A system (it is a beater computer for my brother-in-law's young children) and needed some recommendations for the system. I am keeping the PSUs in the 350 to 400 watt range just to keep a little over what the computer will actually need. At any rate, after looking at Newegg and searching for reviews and sorting through the PSUs in this range, I find that not many PSUs in this range are reviewed much. I picked out a few:

SeaSonic SS-350ET

Antec NEO ECO 400C

I was already aware of the Earthwatts having a good review, but was also curious about the other 2 PSUs. Should I just go with the EW, or should I consider the other 2, or are there any other suggestions for a PSU in this range? I am keeping it under 50$ with shipping.

Corsair CX430 V2 $35 AR (28A on the +12V)
XFX 450W $35 AR (34A on the +12V)

SS-350ET has 27A, 380D has 17A and 15A, and 400C has 30A.

I'd buy the XFX because it's the cheapest after rebate (and shipping which is free) and comes with 5 year warranty.

Hm, not crazy about rebates, so I won't go with the XFX. I appreciate the Corsair link, did not even see that one. I will go with that one unless someone else has a better suggestion. Thanks!
 
Yeah the others are good as well. There are small differences but these are all reliable units so it really won't matter which one you pick if you're paying $45. Just figured you'd save a bit with the rebate.

Earthwatts and Neo Eco don't come with a power cord. Seasonic SS350-ET and Earthwatts don't have sleeved cables, Neo Eco and CX430 do. Earthwatts is 80+ Bronze, the rest are 80Plus efficiency.

With a socket-A system, you don't want to look at the 12V rating, you want to look at the 5V rating. The 5V + 3.3V rating should be over something like 150 or 170W, IIRC.

I might actually suggest a Sparkle/FPS PSU for those older systems.

Thanks Larry. I thought this was the case, but was not sure. It seems the Corsair and other models suggested meet this criteria anyway, fortunately.
