Does anyone think $40 is worth the upgrade from a RETAIL 3400+ to an OEM 3700+ Socket 754?

I also have to drive 52 miles (round trip) just to pick up the 3400+ and was thinking to spend the extra $40 to have the 3700+ shipped to me. Give me some opinions!

Definitely go with the 3700+, it has 1MB of L2 cache which makes it comparable to the FX series.

It's kind of a power hog, but also the best bang for the buck, hands down.

Gas will cost you about $6 or so. :disgust:

Ewiz has the 3700+ OEM for $162. Maybe less if you go through a search engine link. PCClub has the 3400+ retail for $130.

That's actually the two places I'm thinking about buying from. I already ordered the retail 3400+ for $140 after tax but I have to go drive to pick it up (52 miles total). For about $40 more I can get the 3700+ from eWiz and have it shipped to my door instead of driving.

What I plan to do is build a server with my spare Socket 754 motherboard. I currently have an Asus K8N-E motherboard with 1GB of PC2100 RAM (they are spares) and running Server 2003 with it. I'm thinking the 1MB cache would be useful.

Other computers and be used as a training server for now. In the future, after I pass some of my MCSE exams, it will be a full scale server (application, mail, etc)

Still a tossup. If you feel like getting out of the house, take a drive. Otherwise, click that mouse.
