Need some help with choosing the right cpu. I am building a new 64 MOBO/CPU for my sys (1g DC pc3200 ram + SATA HD + 6800NU).
1. What is the difference between the 3400+/socket754 and the 3200+/ socket939 (beside the obvious socket difference). I know the 3200 has the 2000 FSB. Are there other advantages to the socket939?
2. Is the Asus A8V Deluxe the best socket 939 for the money?

I would get the 939 3200+ and overclock the bejeezus out of it. That motherboard would probably be the best value for your money unless you want to go with a cheaper nForce4 motherboard from Gigabyte or Chaintech.

my a8v is very stable and such, and nice overclocking options, but it doesnt seem to like over 255HTT which is a shameeeeeeeeeeeee cos i cant get a 2.6ghz oc because of it

It depends if you want to overclock. 3400+'s are over 10% faster than the skt 939 3200+'s at stock, but the 3200+ has more of an overclocking option. It's up to you, but remember YMMV. The 3400+ is excellent stock, but u have a good CHANCE to overclock the 3200+.

And if your planning to upgrade soon go with PCIe if you dont mind the $100+ price hike for that option then go for that, but if you want to save some money and want the same performance then just go AGP.

It's all your decision. I went 3400+ and AGP because i wanted to save money and my warrenty.

oh, and BTW, the 3200+ doesnt have 2000FSB, it accually has 200fsb just like the 3400+. You're thinking of clock speed, the 3200+ is clocked at 2.0 GHz while the 3400+ is clocked at 2.4 GHz. The other thing is that the 3200+ has dual-channel memory, which gives you an average of a 3% boost in performance.
