Thermalright XP90 is a great heatsink. All you have to do is replace the plastic part on top of the motherboard and it installs quite easily, and there are plenty of quiet fans that will fit it.
Well yea, but I'm not overclock my CPU. That XP-90 cost like 45 bucks, get a Panaflow....that's too much for me though. This the Zalman website compatible list with Soltek:
Ok, maybe I'm not going to get the HFS anymore =) I just download Speedfan instead of using the HM from Soltek, and most of the temp are under 40c. Can someone identify for me which one is the CPU one?
temp1: 26c
temp2: -38c
temp3: 37c
temp: 1c
I don't know what to do in order to make my system run FULL Load so I can identify it though.
yea, between Temp2 and temp3, I just don't know which one. I even use Aida32 and Everest. When I click on the Sensor of both of them, they jsut show me the temp of my Mobo, Aux (don't know what this is), something else (I forgot, but it's definitely not CPU).
UPDATE: Okay, it's temp 3. I try to run application such as Spybot and Ad-Adware, these two use 100% CPU usage, and temp3 keep bumping from 37c to 39c. Temp2 and 1 stay the same...I could be wrong though.
I have the exact same board, the 3400 Newcastle (basically the same thing), and the Thermaltake Venus 12 CPU Cooler. If you can get it to run at 45c, BE HAPPY!!!!!!!! That is perfectly normal. You won't get it any lower than 45c. Mine runs at 48-50c and it's been running like a champ for 4 months now (never gone higher than 50c). You really shouldn't worry until it starts getting hotter than 60c because as stated before, the processor can handle up to 75c. Now go have fun with your rig and relax. It's safe. Also, use the Soltek hardware monitor software that came with your board. It will help you keep an eye on temps if you're really concerned.
Hi, I really don't trust the Soltek HM. I do everything and it still stay at 44c - 46c. When I go the BIOS, it read as 47. Speedfan now tell me that I run for 48c (even idle state). Should I get a Zalman Alcu 7000B for this? I don't know if I should be happy or not, but 45c (base on Soltek HM) is not good for idle.
Oh my god, when I install Soltek HM back, Speedfan show up as -38 instead of -48. When I uninstall Soltek HM, Speedfan go back to -48. .....!!!
Okay guys, I ran Prime95 torture test. After 30 minute, it only show 47c (even Prime is still running). So I think it's unaccurate, I uninstalled it. Restart, when to BIOS, and BIOS say 47c as well. So I go back to window, re-run Prime...and look at Speedfan:
temp1: 31
temp2: -48
temp3: 39 <---this is the one that always jump from 37-39.
So is my temp alright? Should I be happy about this? Or should I just order the Zalman for my sake?
Well, MM5 and Speedfan, they all read off the same temp sensors. I think the best idea is for you to go to your mobo forum and compare your result w/ others. But, I would say your temp is a bit high, but, not dangerously high thou. It's not even close to melting point (75c).
Yea, I think I'm going to get the Alcu B to calm all my worriness. Most of the other user also have the 44c ~ 47c using the Soltek HM as well. So it's not happen only me, but to other ppl too.
Your Temps are fine. You don't need to worry about getting a new HSF. You should definately allow the AS5 to break in. My temps dropped a couple degrees after only a few days. Just shut down your computer everynight for a week or two if you normally leave it powered on all the time. That will allow the break in process to complete and hopefully cool it down a little bit. If you are not going to overclock, don't worry about it.
Hi, I ordered the Alcu 7000B yesterday already. I know I"m too paranoid and freak out about the temp, but hopefully this Alcu will make all the freakout go away. Also, it might help me in the future to do some OC the CPU.
Honestly you're wasting money on that heatsink. My P4 runs at 60C full load and it's perfectly stable. My Athlon XP 2500+ has been overvolted, overclocked and running "high" temperatures since I got it and it's fine.

The temps you reported are well within normal operating thresholds. I'd trust the readings you get from Speedfan and MBM over the app that came with the mobo. My MSI board came with an app called CoreCenter, which displays the temps. CoreCenter consistently shows them to be 4C higher than MBM and Speedfan.
Also, be careful with Speedfan on your PC. My CPU temp shot up by 10 degrees Celsius (temp was 51C) one day and stayed there for a week. I checked everything and couldn't figure out what caused the spike. As soon as I uninstalled Speedfan and rebooted, my CPU temp dropped back down to 39-41C. Somehow Speedfan must have taken control of my CPU fan and dropped the speed even though I didn't configure it to do so.
