I'm on a P42,6C@2,9, 512MB ram PC3200, ATI radeon 9600 PRO (o/c @ 450/325) w/ catalyst 3.8 and on 3dMark03 i get only 3350 marks! I've seen similar systems getting a 5000+ score. Apart from that, CPU marks are a bit above 200! Is that normal? What's wrong!? vsync, AA, AF are off, triple checked :|

sorry for the 5000+, seems to be 4000+... just go to futuremark and search for projects with radeon 9600 series and you will see it..

however, the CPU mark can't be correct! I get ONLY 200 marks whereas other people on the same frequency get 400-600! What could be the fault? help!

Your cpu score should be around 630 at stock speedsaccording to Intel. I think you have overclocked something to high which will cause serious drop in your 3dmark03 score. This is assuming you have the settings right. What are your scores at stock speeds? You should always set a baseline score.

I don't know how much difference it makes but you seem to be using an older build (3DMark03 Revision 1 Build 3). Download the 330 patch.
Then set everything to default (cpu & vid card). Run 3Dmark03 again and establish a control benchmark. After that bring it back up to your current OC, run it again and see what happens.

3k in 3dm03 is what you should expect. Your CPU is the bottleneck. When I OC'ed my P4 to 3Ghz and ran 3dm03 with my 9600 Pro, I got the same score I did at 2.4Ghz. :p

The only thing that looks way off is your CPU score.
Here is a compare url with settings close to your original settings (vid card) and the cpu at stock.

Do you have HT on or off.
What memory timings.

It looks like you should top out about 3700-3900 marks.

hyperthreading is on!
memory frequency is manually set at 400mhz (in auto mode it booted up in 266 .. dunno why)

everything else is in auto mode, that contains voltages, agp/pci freqs etc... i haven't touched anything else in the bios..
and that's what is concerning me.. maybe i didn't set up the system correct? :[

Do you have AA&AF set to Application Preference? I don't remember all the settings, but d/l Rage3d and set it to 3dMaro1.

Aside from the benchmark is every thing working ok?
No slow downs or any thing on other app?
