330 watt PS + ATI Radeon 9500

I read that the ATI radeon 9500 requires a 350 watt power supply to function correctly. I'm wondering if I should take a risk with my 330 watt and install it? Anybody have this setup? Just curious.

Thanks.

Is it a quality-brand 330 like an Enermax or Antec? (and what's in your system, is it heavily loaded or light)

Dell Dimension 8100 p4 1.5ghz (socket 423) 512mb RDRAM 800mhz 80gb HD SantaCruz sound card 16x dvd rom 32xcd-rw....

Think that's everything.

Hey, I was able to get my friends Radeon 9700pro running just fine with my 250w psu 🙂 It just depends on the quality of the PSU 🙂

BTW - I have a gateway PSU (see rig) 😀

I think you'll make it. Your Dell is equipped with a proprietary PSU, so if you decided to replace it you would probably want a PC Power & Cooling Dell-specific unit: link

you'll be fine. those dell power supplies are very high quality (cuts down on tech support calls)

and the reason that ati and nvidia and amd and whoever are saying you should have x many watts is because theres a lot of crappy power supplies out there that can't make their rated power.

I have a 350W PSU:

Tyan Tiger MP Board
Dual MP 1800+
1.25GB Memory
Radeon 9700
40x CD-R
16x DVD
80GB WD SE Drive
11GB Maxtor
Saitek X45
Santa Cruz
3Com NIC
A bunch of USB devices

I'm fine. It's a PC Power and Cooling PSU.
