you see. How are Americans gonna compete with that? They will probably continue mining while they wait for rescue.

Humans can live 3-4 minutes without air, only a few days without water, and up to 30 days without food. Now that there is a drill shaft, where all three can come down from the surface, they can live indefinitely while they await rescue.

While there is life there is hope.

...but it doesn't matter how long it takes to have a happy ending,

I hope the families have support while the money makers are trapped down there also.

Great story.. thank you for posting it.

17 days is a long time in its own right, I can't imagine having to know it will take a couple more months. I hope no one down there loses hope.

Do they get paid overtime? Seriously - I wonder how the company is going to compensate them for being trapped. Will the company say "You're lucky to be alive and that we rescued you." Or, will the company at least give them their regular pay?

From what I've read about the situation: the mine shaft is sort of corkscrew shaped, and about 4 1/2 miles long. The trapped miners have access to about a mile of "move around space" and 2 motor vehicles for providing light and electricity. Some drinking water is available via seepage. The gold and copper mine was initially begun some 200 years ago.

Actually, the miners have to compensate the company for the rescue. So it's gonna cost each miner $100K to get out of the hole. If one of them balks, the price for everyone else goes up.

Seriously, pretty cool that one of these 'trapped miner' stories may have a happy ending.

"Then came the second note. Miners told that they had spent 17 days in the shelter, which had small amount of drinking water and foods. With the help come to their equipment to miners managed to get permanent access to water. The battery is one of the trapped car was used as a source of electricity."

On the news, I heard the space was the size of a hotel room. They say it's 95f and 95% humidity in that space. Amazing if they can last another month in there til they can widen that hole from 6" to 27" where they can be hauled up one at a time.
