New NCAA crowd record for a college basketball game! I felt like I was back watching the old Syracuse/Georgetown games when they had a few 32k+ crowds.

SU finishes 23-4!

Had chants of "One more year!" for Carmelo Anthony but he's probably going pro 🙁 The college game is too easy for him.

Oh well. On to the Big East and NCAA tourneys!

Haha, what a great game. 🙂

I was there (season tickets!) and I was yelling at those damn refs. They were so horrid. They had poor form too - they missed a lot of calls because they were out of position - it was pitiful.

Oh well - SU still won! 😀

Yeah, I really hope Carmelo stays for another year - they will be top 5 easy if he does. If SU can win the Big East tourny they'll be a 1 or 2 seed - that friggin rocks! Go ORANGE!

Article from the Feb 15, 2003 game vs. Notre Dame

Playing in front of 32,116 people at the Carrier Dome, including about 2,000 from his hometown of Scranton, Pa., the freshman guard hit a 3-pointer with 18 seconds left to give No. 17 Syracuse an 82-80 victory over No. 10 Notre Dame on Saturday.
Buses filled with McNamara's fans make the 2-hour trip from Scranton for home games and the numbers keep getting bigger.

McNamara's my boy. I'm from the Scranton area.

17-0 at home for the Cuse this season! Win a game or 2 in the Big East tourney and it's a #2 seed for sure. As for this game.....how good is Carmelo Anthony? Solid play from just about everyone on the team and a good win to finish off the regular season (despite the horrible officiating) and head into the tournaments. Hopefully SU can make a good run in the tournament and maybe I'll see some of you in New Orleans 😀 Oh, and about Carmelo.....I guess there was an article in the Friday paper about the team and it said that as of Thursday, Carmelo is planning on staying for next year. Can you say top 5 next year if this is in fact true? GO ORANGE!

Allright! Get excited! College sports! Lackadaisical, grunting, illiterate Neandarthals that will become tomorrow's overpaid "pro" athletes! Oooo-rah! Yea-team!

I have personally seen a 6'6" 290-pound musclehead that couldn't pronounce "Chaucer" let alone read and comprehend it, be given a 4-year, free ride, complete with rigged grades, thru college.

Not fair. Sucks ass. Illegal. And it happens at every major university, 365 days a year. :|

Michael D, clearly a jealous didn't-ever-play-a-sport dolt...

grunting illiterate neanderthals? Boy, that is funny.

Less than 1% of all Division 1 basketball players go on to be pro players, but what the heck, you can go ahead and group them all together...while you mop the floor up after them!

Illegal? Please.

I would bet you that more than 50% of the over 18 US population doesn't pronounce "Chaucer" right, but if you think that makes him a non-functioning citizen, go right ahead and think that.

Rant over...

Sorry guys, Anthony is gone for sure after this year. He'll be the second or third player picked in the draft after LeBron and maybe Milicek...he is an excellent player though!

I would go dumpster-diving before I'd EVER clean the floor or be a towel-boy for any of these over-egoed, club-dragging misfits.

And I've played basketball (I suck) and football (not too bad) so I know the "breed", if you will.

First off, thanks for crapping in the thread. Second, I guess you must have missed the story of Tyrone Albright at SU. You're probably saying Tyrone who? He's a guy that went to community college and then ends up transferring to SU for his senior year to play basketball. He is on scholarship and ends up not playing a whole lot this season due to the great team we have this year. What's the big deal you say? Albright's scholarship was for ACADEMICS. So much for being a "Lackadaisical, grunting, illiterate Neandarthal" with rigged grades. Oh, and that must mean that I'm one too as I played soccer in college

If you took my responses as "crapping" then that's your bag, man. I was expressing my opinon on the current (last 10 years, actually) crop of college athletes. Have you actually listened to any of their interviews? "Um, yeah, man...like we won and stuff..hehehe...like the b-balling crap-shoot was like, in da HOU'SEEEEEE!!!!!! Where's my agent?"

My dog has better speaking skills (ergo, comprehension, etc) than these guys.

Yes, your responses have been thread crapping. They have NOTHING to do with SU basketball but only serve to criticize college athletics. If that's what you want to discuss take it to another damn thread.

By the way, having seen some interviews with SU basketball players, they aren't that dumb. Hakim Warrick is well spoken and Carmelo Anthony is pretty good too. However, for the most part, college athletes are morons. It's pitiful, yes, however they aren't teachers or politicians, they are here to play basketball to entertain people - who cares?

Anyway, if SU can win the Big East tournament, ESPN seems to think they have a shot at a no. 1 seed in the NCAA tourny! 😀

I thought this was a very interesting piece of the ESPN.com article about the game.

The game, which was not televised locally, attracted a Carrier Dome-record crowd of 33,071, also an NCAA on-campus record, as die-hard Orange fans hoped to convince Anthony to stay one more year instead of jumping to the NBA, chanting ``One more year!'' as time wound down.

``I got a chill when everybody started cheering that,'' said Anthony, who has 607 points. ``To know that 33,000 are supporting me right now, I just feel great about it.''

Hopefully this means that he's leaning towards staying for another year, but we'll see I guess. And since I forgot to mention it in my earlier post.....for those of you at the game, how great was it to see "The General" back in Syracuse? I was getting all fired up when he started dropping names like Seikaly, Triche, Washington, Thompson, etc. When I saw Carmelo standing there for the whole speech, I was hoping that he was going to take the mic and announce that he was staying for next year. Unfortunately, no such luck, and as of now, we'll just have to enjoy watching him play while he's still here.

I didn't know about the retirement of Douglas' number but I'm glad it happened finally. Seeing only 3 retired numbers up on the blue curtain always had me wondering especially with all the great players that have come through SU. Glad Sherman will be joining Bing, Pearl, and Hanson

There are a million reasons to stay but one big reason that has a lot of $$$ signs. I hope Carmelo can pass off the money for one more year.
