Cool, where is the firmware? Is it just as simple as flashing it with the 48X firmware? And if this is a repost, where is the original?

I told my friend that you couldn't do this just so he'd stop bugging me on how to do it. ;)

Beware, this is not applicable to all 32X drives. There are two drives 32S and 32W. The upgrade is only for the 32W drives.

Update the bios. If the drive still works, congratulations, it's now a 48x. If it doesn't work, go buy a new one.

Heck, these LiteOn burners are pretty much disposable.

Is there any way to tell from the label on the drive? (The drive is in a clear plastic bag because I'm buying OEM)

I've been looking to get a new CDRW and where I buy it from, they aren't going to drop it into a system and let me look at the device manager before I buy it.

I have just bought a 32x12x40 Liteon from Dell.com and upon looking at the label on the top (the circular motor thing) it states the model. Unfortunately, I got a 32S :(.

On a side note, what is this "mount rainer" support?

Well, look at it this way. I'd rather get a *****CONFIRMED***** linkage than spend hours searching :D
