Getting a 32x burner tomorrow. Do i need 24x-compatible CDs to be able to burn at 24x?

No, I don't think so. I got a 32/12/40 Lite On last week, and I have burned Maxell 12x and Verbatim 16x media at 32x successfully every time. I'm using the version of Nero that came with the burner.

Discs that are rated at 16x or better will likely work, depending on the brand. More than anything, it comes down to the brand of disc being used. Don't try to use a 4x or 6x disk in your new burner at 24x unless you are in need of coasters.

Most 24 discs will burn at 32X.

But, really the only way to tell is the throw one in your drive and start nero. It wont let you over burn it (at least from the first burn window).

I had some CompUSA gold discs that are rated 16X. They only burned at 24X.

I have a spindle of PNY discs that are rated at 16X and burn at 32X without a problem.
