Lemme 'splain. I've been reading reviews on 32 and 40x burners over at CDRLABS.com. Most say words to the effect "we had trouble getting the TDK/LG/Plextor/whatever to succesfully burn at 32x with most 16x media...blahblah.

OK, my GF just got a Buslink 32x CDRW (it's actually a rebadged Lite-on). Last night, using FUJIFILM 16x CDRs, we successfully copied 4 music CDs and one "data" (we'll leave it at that) CD, at 32x (4800kb/s) They all worked when tested in her DVD-rom.

Is this a fluke that it worked? Should I anticipate probs in the future? I am looking at getting this same drive, and already have 200 (hey, they were on sale!) FUJIFILM 16x CDRs. Somebody educate me, please.

I've found that some 16X media can be a problem when burned at 32X. Not that you can't do it, but many CD players wont be able to read them. They will work fine in a CDROM drive, or DVD rom drive, but if you take it out to the car, you'll have problems.

So, for audio, I usually scale it back on most media to 24X and there doesn't seem any compatability problems. If I'm doing data, I use the 32X setting as CDRoms never seem to have a problem reading them.

I'd check those audio discs out in a couple CD players you would normally use them in just to double check. If it doesn't play, try knocking the speed down just a bit. If it does play just fine, then keep burning them at 32X.

Something that may be part of the reason too is that all (at least that I have seen) fujifilm CDs are TY's (Very High-Quality CDs). Maybe the other CDs were just generic junk.

Hey, thanks guys. Nice, intelligent replies. :) I will check out the audio CDs in the car stereo, which is the reason she's burning them. Long road trip coming up and she doesn't want to take the "originals" lest they get stolen/damaged. I think knocking the burn speed down to 24x is a good idea as well.

<< fujifilm CDs are TY's >>

Is TY good? I didn't know that CDRs had a rating system...man, am I ignorant.

are you sure it's actually making a x32 burn.
I recall setting nero to x24 on x12 cdrs & it said burn was successful at x24 even though it took longer to burn than the burn speed would suggest!
how long does it take you to burn a cd??

Hmm, well, (yesterday was my first time using Nero...FWIW) before clicking "burn" there's the drop-down box that has all the possible burn speeds listed and 32x was selected.

It took 4:20 to burn and entire audio CD (10 or 11 tracks...I forget) Does that sound like 32x burning? I don't know what it should look liike, as I have a 12x burner.

4:20 is about 20x burning. lite-on drives include something that allows them to determine the burn rate at the beginning.
