32GB SDHC: Does Class 6 matter?

So I'm currently using SDHC cards mostly for point and shoot/720p HD video. Class 4 is probably more than enough for that. But I'd like to get into dSLR and 1080P HD recording at some point and I'm wondering if I'll run into bottlenecks with a class 4 card?

The premium for class 6 is semi pricey right now and I don't want to pay that if it's unnecessary for my uses.

Any advice?

Does brand matter? Or can i pickup a $100 Transcend 32gb SDHC class 6? The Sandisk ones are about twice the price.

go for class 10 - cheaper brands due to bad sectors or what not will be on the edge. stuttering or data loss is not cool.

class 4 = the jmicron of flash
class 6 = the samsung(old)
class 10 = sandforce/new hotness

Sandisk makes nice products for more money (aka binning) because they work. I've got a sandisk ultra SD card in a panasonic camera, its been recycling 24/7 for the last 2 years. so i can have 1000's of images in event of network disconnect. took the card out the other day and did a sector check (scrub) and no problems. was really amazed you could write way beyond its spec and not have some issue.

you GET what you pay for - if it is a value to you - if you lose an entire SDHC on vacation - Does that have value for you? If that hot chick gets butt nekki and approves of the high def action - what is the potential value of data loss or poor quality?

everyone has different values.

If you go with Class 10, make SURE the device you're buying it for (and any other devices you might put it into) supports it. Most devices on the market today - even some new ones coming out) only support up to Class 6.

Generally you can find a Class 6 for around the same price as Class 4. I'd just pay a little extra for the higher speed.

i've just seen two many "class 6" cheapies not perform to class 6 minimum consistently over the entire size (32gb) . to me its not class 6 unless every sector meets the speed standard at read/write

I bought a class 4 SDHC 8GB card (PNY, I think), and it never reached class 4 speeds. Always below them. It was like the rating was a limit, and not something that it actually reached.

google counterfeit kingston sd cards - straight from the factory - ghost chips - B-stock.

you can get a real legit looking card that instead of being trashed was turned into product - and many companies these days have a core company brand and a less than perfect brand. So the Sandisk(hypoth) doesn't cut it - only does class 4 speed - rated at class 6 - relabel as PMY (hypoth name) and sell it - PMY gets a bad rap from some but Sandisk doesn't -- word?
