Started the computer this morning to check my email before work and nothing would connect. Thought it was just my ISP doing service so I didnt worry about it. Came home and still nothing. Laptop worked so its not ISP so I do some investigating and it turns out that AIM lite, firefox, thunderbird, internet explorer (32bit) flash FXP, xchat, ect will not connect to anything, and upon closing 80% of them are terminated by vista. However, internet explorer 64bit works like a charm (using to type this).

What the hell??

Ipconfig works and i am at my desired xxx.xxx.x.6 address for all of my router specific functions and vista network manager says there is no problem detected. Vista firewall (with vista firewall control addon) is normal, i even disabled it and nothing changed. I just dont get it. No driver problems that i can see.

Cliffs:

1. (vista ultimate 64bit); no 32 bit internet programs connect, iexplore 64bit works fine.
2. no usual suspects
3. E6600 @3.2, asus p4wdh deluxe, 4gb ram, 7900gt, x-fi music, ect
4. help!

Im gonna guess LSP malware (do you have UAC turned off?) or corruption (less likely). Do a netsh tcpip reset (not exact commands, but you should be able to google for it) and see if that resolves it.

it was actually corruption of the stack due to a botched nod32 update. dug out my old networking textbook from highschool (NT networking) and figured out the problem. Luckily the command i used still worked.

+1 for the reply my good man!
