321 Studios will release DVD transcoding tool, DVDxCopy Express

"321 Studios, the company that is currently fighting against the Hollywood studios to allow home users to make backups of their DVD movies, will now also release an express version of their famous DVDxCopy software , dubbed DVDxCopy XPRESS. According to 321 Studios, the software will be able to create a backup of a DVD-9 movie to a DVD-5 disc in about 30 minutes with one click. This includes reading the DVD, compressing (transcoding) the movie and burning the movie. The backup will include only the movie, no menus or special features, all inclusive.

The burning engine has been bought from a well known company (we are not allowed to publish which one yet) and promises high compatibility with DVD players. DVDxCopy Express will be available in the retail market for USD 69.99 and will be introduced with a USD 20,00 mail in rebate."

Who cares? There are freeware tools that do the EXACT same thing as DVDxCopy. I still don't understand why people buy it. That combined with the fact that DVDShrink is free.

Have you looked at the price they are going to charge. I don't think so......

Give me Instantcopy, DVDShrink, DVD95Copy, or DVD2one. They are all less than half the price 321 will be charging.

Give me Instantcopy, DVDShrink, DVD95Copy, or DVD2one. They are all less than half the price 321 will be charging.

The only thing I can respect about 321 is they are fighting for Fair Use of DVDs. Of course they aren't doing it for the consumer but trying to make sure they can stay in business.

The only thing I can respect about 321 is they are fighting for Fair Use of DVDs. Of course they aren't doing it for the consumer but trying to make sure they can stay in business.

That opens the door to the people who wrote the programs that you like. One company chose to stand up against the studios. If it was the studios vs the few people who coded the other programs they would have succumbed to legal pressures. It makes sense for the studios to go after the big dog first as opposed to crushing the little ones but letting the dog go loose

Actually no, the reason DVDxCOPY has to worried is they bundle DVD ripping in their application. It breaks the encryption. Except for DVDShrink none of the other programs deal with encrypted data. You have to rip the dvd first. They had nothing to really worry about.

EDIT: BTW Pinnacle Systems who makes InstantCopy is a bigger company that 321 studios. They just didn't want to get involved with this issue.
