hello
i received today all the pieces for my new gaming pc, from dabs.

i ordered :-
a64 3200+ (winchester)
asus a8v deluxe - i would tell you the revision, and bios number, but i cant get that info unless i post 😱
1x512mb corsair cl 2.5 pc3200 value select
asus x800pro vivo
antec case with 400watt smartpower psu
rest of gear irrelevent i think 😉

ok, well.. after setting it all up, feeling pretty confident, i power up, and no video display, just all fans working, and Cdrom and floppy lights going. This kind of thing usually happens first time round i think to myself, so i go through the normal procedure:-

reseat ram, (in B1 slot, as per the manual)
reseat graphics card
reseat CPU

No luck

try different ram stick
try different graphics card

No luck!

i googled a8v 90nm for problems, and hear that it will not boot with 90nm cpus unless just 1 stick of ram is in dimm slot B1. Strange, thinks i - thats the slot mine is in... and i saw that unless your stick is in B1, you will hear "computer not boot becase of CPU overclocking" with asus's voice reporter.

So, i tried moving the ram to slot A1, and hey! i hear "computer not boot because of CPU overclocking".
but it does not do this when the ram is in B1.

So, basically, i still cannot boot, and am totally baffled.

does anyone have any ideas please?

thanks in advance

Does the bios support the 90nm cpus without a flash update? What does the Asus site say about that? What is your PSU? Do you have a friend with the 130nm 3500+ or higher to try in the motherboard to see if it works?

yes, i think so. but according to others with my board, it should be able to post if you have just 1 stick of ram in B1.
