I am sort of new to all this so bear with me.
I am building a new computer, it will consist of:
MSI K8N Neo4 plat. or a DFI LanParty N4 Ultra (not sure yet)
2 x 512 Corsair Value Select
eVGA 6800gt
AMD 64 3200+ Venice

I am wondering mostly about the processor though. I have read websites like this (http://techgage.com/review.php?id=1286&page=4) that prove the overclockability of the 3200+ venice. That website gets 2.7 with value ram (i have value to which is why I ask).
Is this actually achievable and plausible, to get my rig and try and OC my venice to a decent speed (2.5 +).?
If so what exactly should I do as far as mem dividers and stuff.?

Put your mem on a divider and if your CPU is capable then it CAN hit 2.5GHz.
Oh and I'd get some different ram. I haven't heard too many nice things about corsair value ram but I could be wrong.

well look at my sig and you will know :) almost the same setup

but my 3000+ is hand-picked. I paid a fortune for it, because of the week/stepping of the chip. I had a pretty good idea up front that it would at least boot 2.9ghz and run stable ~2.7ghz.

mine is older, though, the newer Venice cores will not do that
new ones are ...BWBOX

do you have the CPU yet? if so, give us the second line of info from the front of the actual CPU itself, should start with LBBLE or LBBWE

only one way to find out though for sure...

also, if I were you I would get the DFI LP UT NF4 Ultra-D and scrap the Corsair Value Select and get Crucial OEM or Geil Value instead. Corsair+DFI= problems for many

No, I haven't bought the CPU yet, I already have the ram though. I don't want to scrap it cause I spent 80 on it... so I will probably get the MSI, it's rated better than the DFI on Tom's Hardware so I guess it can't be that much worse. You've got the DFI though right? Have you had any problems? Just trying to get as much info as I can.

Well if you can O/C your 3000+ to 2.7 ghz with Corsair VS than that's reassuring. The problem will be getting a cpu that can do that, right? This means I have to look at local shops...which are sparse around me.

And what are your settings as far as how you O/C'd it?

the msi is a good board, too. I had the K8N Neo4-F previous to this board and it was a good overclocker. just a nice stable, fast board imho, though lots of people will tell you they are awful.

keep the RAM then but know that you are rolling the dice with the DFI.

actually, mine booted just fine at stock settings after flashing directly to 704-BTa bios. using certain memory dividers can be tricky, and the RAM is very, very finicky on this board.

BUT, and it's a big BUT...my VS runs about 5mhz faster at slightly tighter timings on the DFI once it's stabilized, as compared with the Neo4-F or VNF4 Ultra before that. can really crank down the timings moreso on the DFI at DDR400 speeds and get better latency.

but I spent several DAYS fine-tuning the ram, bleh

that's why I say get the DFI, send back the RAM:)

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Processor (Venice) @ 2.7 GHz, stock air; 1.55V
DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR
XFX GeForce 6600 GT PCI Express 128MB
Enermax EG565P-VE FMA 535W Power Supply
OCZ 2x512MB; Model #: OCZ400512WV3; 2.9V

Notice that I am using OCZ value ram (that is no longer available I understand). All I did was set the memory divider so that I run as close to DDR400 as possible.
