3200+ stock cooling question

I've got a question regarding temperatures on my new 64 3200+ venice chip. using the stock hsf and not OC'ing i'm reading temperatures of ~52c at full load running prime95, and 33c for the system temp. I'm not sure exactly where the system temp is measured on my epox SLI motherboard though (my best guess is that its on the northbridge due to high system temps i'm seeing). Either way these temps seem a bit high to me. I have 2 80mm exhaust fans in the back and one on the side, along with a slot fan in one of the ide slots. I've tried a number of different configurations for the fans but this seems to work the best. Any suggestions on how to cool this baby down? Should I try re-installing the HSF? I have some Arctic Silver 3 from a previous build, should i try scraping off the original thermal compund and using that?

I dunno. I have a P180 with a 3200 E3 venice @ 2.5ghz w/ 1.5volts. I am using the stock aluminum crappy amd heatsink for a temporary heatsink and I still have about 34C idle and 42-44C load.

ok i'm out of ideas, this doesn't make any sense. Did i just get a hot chip? i don't understand why my temps are so high. I've treid everything i can think of. I took off the HSF and re-installed it using arctic silver instead of the original compound (after removing old stuff of course). I've tried running with the case open and the overhead fan blowing down on the system. I've felt the HSF while running at full load and it's bearly warm to the touch. is it possible my system is just reading the temperature wrong? I'm pretty much completely out of ideas short of buying a new hsf.

Sometimes the thermal diode can be inaccurate by as much as 10C degrees!! Plus, it all depends on where you are (i.e. climate), time of year, other case components, and airflow through the case. You could try undervolting the processor if you aren't doing any overclocking.

I think i may have an idea, but it will have to wait until after work to check. I thought my voltages were high...i'm running an epox 9rda3-sli motherboard. I think that the board may be setting the default voltage to 1.5 instead of 1.4, so I'm going to try a bios update (epox thunderprobe was reading 1.47-1.5, but it never clicked before). Read somewhere that old bios couldn't differentiate between 90mm and 130mm chips. If that doesn't work i'll try manually undervolting the chip.

Is there are reason you want lower temps? Because you?re current temps are perfectly fine.

Sure, they're safe temps, but my OC'd 3000+ doesn't see above 38 degrees.

I'm going to hazard a guess as to that you have a bad temp diode. It's relatively common.

I'd say reseat the HSF.

With the stock HS/F?

Sorry, I didn't see that you had already reseated it.

Freezer 64 Pro is a great heatsink for a 3200+. It is very easy to install, so you don't have to remove motherboard. It can be done in as little as 5 minutes.
