Hello

I recently bought a Maxtor 320 GB SATA II (300) hard drive. When i installed it into the computer the SATA controler picks it up as a 305 GB hard drive. I'm not quite sure if that is normal. When formated it shows up as 305 GB??? I don't believe 15 gb would be reserved for the FAT table.

That's normal. Windows uses a different definition of a KB than hard drive manufacturers

Its gibibytes vs Gigabytes

just do 320 *(1000/1024)^3

320GB drives format to 298GiB by the way.

320* (1000 * 1000 * 1000) / (1024 * 1024 * 1024)

I kind of asumed this was normal. I remember a while someone else told me that the Allocation table of the drive takes quite much space. I'm not sure exactly how much space it was formated?????
