32" Philips LCD HDTV - $998 + free Tivo @ Target B&M

Front page of the Target ad had a 32" Philips LCD HDTV for $998. Includes a free Series 2 Tivo (i.e. out the door with both for $1090 incl SoCal tax).

I called my local store and they were out, but the next one had at least a couple left. You have to ask a salesperson, as they are in the back only. Rings up

$998 for a name brand with no hassle in a B&M is pretty good by my book! (regular price is $1499). And a free Tivo

Specs are apparently 1366 x 768, 18ms, 600:1, 176 degrees. The Philips site lists about six different variants of the set, so I don't know which it is exactly.

Link to Amazon, Target, Philips

Oh yeah.....one HDMI input, one VGA (with supplied converter to component), one component, two s-video/composite

Per the amazon page the OP linked:
* Composite AV (RCA) In: 2 (1 side)
* S-Video In: 2 (1 side)
* Component Video In (Y PB PR): 1
* HDMI In: 2
* RF In: 1
* PC Audio In: 1
* PC VGA In: 1
* Headphone: 1
It has VGA.

But the specs from the OP, it seems a pretty poor max resolution for a computer monitor that big if you ask me.

That 37" spectre at costco for $1500 had a much better resolution. Of course its more expensive too 🙂

Went to the Target in Okemos, MI last night to pick one up. But it wasn't marked for $998 it was $898 with a free 40 hr Tivo. Also it was a Magnavox TV. So I applied for their credit card and got 10% off on top of (95 bucks) so with tax is was $856.xx.

Oh and on the receipt it says that the Tivo return value is around $165 so if you took that back you could get the TV for around 700 bucks.

Nice find OP, my wife and I thank you!

Have you try return the tivo @ target and get your $165 back?

Target is my favorite place for sales....

can anyone say.... raincheck!

For those without a calculator, the philips sale price of $998 vs "regular" price of $1499 = 33% off

Wait for the Philips to sell out, then ask for a RC -- and get the tv you really want for 33% off. Woot!
(a little lesson I learned from athd)

could at least swap it for 165 in other stuff if target didn't require sales receipt for returns. They probably will say something about it gor being 'free'

Nice deal! I wonder if this is a harbinger of much cheaper flat panels.

Yeah, many companies are trying to sell off screens with 1366 x 768 resolution because the new standard is 1920x1200 (a huge amount more pixels). The first can do 720p native (they downscale anything higher), the second can do 1080i/p native (they upscale anything lower). So they have a pile of the old screens. Plus the LCD stuff is becoming very popular. You dont have to put an entertainment cabinet around the old style TV to hide how massive it is. Just throw the LCD against the wall with its stand and you are set.

On the ad cover it looks pretty good, with free tivo and all. So if you know that there is no built in tuner or cable card slot, this may be a pretty good price, right? It reminds me of the Olevia syntax 32" @ Microcenter a while back. That was supposed to be a pretty nice pic on that LCD. No free Tivo there either. Does this LCD have a decent pic? Also note it says explicitly no rainchecks. Also, imho good luck trying to get $165 back on returning a Tivo you got for free.Lol.Thanks OP.

I went and saw this in Target this afternoon.

Cheaply made for a phillips, flimsy plastic. It looked Phillips just got a hold of a bunch of 13x7 panels and through them into some thin plastic, and voila 32" LCD.

Yea... I'm sure that's exactly what they did. :disgust:
