I was starting to get some parts ready for a new addition to my FaD fleet.
I pulled out an old Enhance 300W power supply that will be appropriate for this particular machine and remembered replacing the fan with a VERY loud Sunon KD1208PTB2 80mm.

I knew I didn't want that loud fan in there so I decided to check what specs that one had to make a decision on which fan to replace it with.

A google turned up ratings of 39CFM and 32db. I am thinking NO WAY is it that quiet! Then I came across that old Directron fan test. (keep in mind that IMHO these Directron tests are not very scientific or accurate)

Here's a link for those of you that haven't seen them before:

The Sunon is 3rd from the bottom @ 60.4db average. 😀
It's position is probably accurate anyway, cause this is a pretty LOUD fan.

I am surprised Directron still has this page online!

Anyway, I am probably gonna put a Panaflo L1A in it, unless this old TBird950 needs a little cooling help. The case I am using is an old stainless steel Antec with no exhaust fan mounts. I am gonna have to rig something up there as well.

🙂

Yea dBA ratings are so bogus....no REAL standard which to go by really...if you have ever heard a Nexus and keep their specs in mind, you will wonder how some companies get away with the claims they make on dBA's and cfms for that matter. The pannies are very nice fans...you will like it...they undercut their cfm specs and their dBA specs are accurate imo.

actually the Coolmaster as well as the zalman fans are very nice!!

I prefer the coolermaster though....

But being a Zalman Guy I had to have at least one Zalman fan in my sytem!! lol
