32 bit vs 16 bit color depth

i have an ibm t40 with a radeon 7500. will there be a difference in power cosumption between 16 bit and 32 bit color depth. i noticed the explorer windows look a little corrupted at the top in 16 bit mode.

 
Trivial power consumption difference and next to no performance difference b/w 16 and 32 bit. You might as well leave it at 32.
 
Using 16-bit to conserve power? Never heard of that one before.

Matter of fact, you might incur extra power usage when it has to dither the 24/32bit images down. 😀
