Ok I thought I knew the answer to this for the longest time. Here is the CPU I have in my Dell Latitude E6400:

1 J174K Processor, P8700, 2.53, 3MB, Core Penryn, 25W, R0

Is this compatible with the 64-bit Windows 7 OS?

I always thought 64-bit OS is only compatible with 64-bit CPU?

Please advise, thanks!

The P8700 processor is 64 bit capable. Your choice. 32 bit is yesterday.s news.

Like they said, compatible with 32 bit, 64 bit capable. I also would recommend 64 bit OS.

Pretty much the only reason not to go 64-bit is if you're running old legacy hardware that doesn't have 64-bit drivers. Only really a problem for businesses and industry though.

Definitely make the switch.

I have an E6300 core 2 duo, is it 64 bit capable. I believe it is, but wanna make sure. Right now I got WindowsXP 32 bit running on it, I did get a copy of the Windows7 32 bit version, but am wondering how much benefit I would get from getting the 64 bit version.

64bit is marginally faster and has support for more memory. If you have more then 3gb of RAM get 64bit, it is just that simple.
