That's bullmullarky because a heavy duty lantern cell does NOT use alkaline cells! Heavy duty (zinc chloride) batteries are sheet compared to alkaline. If you're using them that heavily invest in some nimh cells and a good charger.

Not real, it's an old spoof. The creator of that one also has a video on how to run a TV off a single AAA battery.

I've always assumed that's what was inside based on the shape of the batteries (too rounded at the corner to be AA-sized batteries in there) and the voltage (6v = 4x1.5). Seems to make more sense economically - why make eight little batteries when you can make one big one? But I wouldn't rule out the possibility that it's different with different brands.

"If that the video was from a site called "Gagfilms.com," and being featured on their home page next to clips titled, "Video Proof That Ghosts Really Exist" and "The Girl With 2 Pussies," wasn't enough of a tipoff, the images sent in by reader Roberta who tested it out should do it for you."

I got bored, and opened an old lantern battery that was collecting dust awhile back. It was a duracell. To my surprise, rather than 4 bigass cells like the energizer in the article pictured above, it was 4, fully labeled D cells. This was a battery from like 1999 though. I thought it was pretty interesting.

lol, I wonder how many people actually fell for this.

Of course if you invest in NiMH and a decent charger you'll get far better value than 32 batteries per $5. I'm to the point where I've pretty much got all my devices powered by rechargeable batteries, there are only very niche scenarios where I need disposable and can't/don't want to use rechargeable.

even better to get low-self-discharge rechargeables like samsung eneloops. you can use these in pretty much anything. help the environment and say no to disposable batteries.

anyway that was a funny video. hilarious to see all those AAs pouring out.

It's kind of obvious.

He pulled off 2 wires, that were somehow connecting 32 batteries to 2 leads.
