32/64-bit OS

I've heard the term 32-bit operating system for a long time and have never bothered to understand what it truly means. Now that 64-bit OS is becoming more popular, I'd like to know what this means so that when it comes time for me to upgrade, I know why it's important.

I was given a very vague description once by someone as saying it [the OS] executes code in 32-bit or (64-bit) but that doesn't really explain a whole lot.

wikipedia that hard to understand?

Sorry, i don't see a point of re-iterating what is already there on million different sites.

Yes, some will complain how my response is not useful.

What's the point of having this forum if you can't even post a question?

Instead of being a 'Class A' Ass-reaming jackal, why don't you STFU and ignore the thread if you don't feel like answering the question. No one said you had to read it or post a response if it's so beneath you to help a newbie out. It'd be nice to see you take your bile of postmortem attitude and stuff it in your casket. What a freakin douche bag.

GOD THIS HAS BEEN ASKED BEFORE DO YOU KNOW HOW TO USE THE SEARCH... lol j/k only difference i hear much about nowadays is that 32bit can only use 3gig vis 64 can use alot more like 100's of ram

If you had a specific question maybe, but your question is very general and can be easily answered by Google or Wikipedia. Most people here have no problems answering virtually any question but lines have to be drawn somewhere otherwise we end up with dozens of threads asking the same question over and over (i.e. see pagefile optimization crap threads) and that makes those of us who do answer questions want to participate less.

Personal attacks are frowned upon here so if you can't have a civil conversation please find another forum.
