Go browse Sears website & find the model you want, then plug the model number into My Simon, NexTag, Price Grabber, Priceworld, etc & come up with the cheapest price, print out the web page, take it to a Sears B&M, get them to pricematch the website price...

Like this Toshiba 50A61 @ Abit for $1199 that Sears carries for $1399.

If you get the right salesperson, they'll forget about adding shipping charges, etc...

Was just browsing Sears website, they have a nice 43" sony for $1199, can't find it cheaper anywhere.

I have the Samsung, and even though I do not get HDTV broadcasts:

1) I do have digital cable, and the picture quality is far superior to anything else you have listed. Sorry boys, but if your Wega is just standard NTSC, the quality is not there.

2) I do have, and you can get for a reasonable price, a progressive DVD player. 480p is much better than 480i. You cannot use the progressive feature on most "normal" quality sets, and if you could it would not be the same.

For the bux, you cant go wrong.

aphex,

Did you ever get a chance to get out and see this TV?

It's a bit more than $1,000 but you won't be sorry that you spent the extra couple hundred bucks. It's got all the toys you need for the present as well as the future.

(BTW, I love my Ultravision :))

progressive only makes a difference on HD sets.

Wow, where do you get a Sony HDTV for $1000?

Ok Update!!!

Just got back from Sears, CC, and BB.

We threw out the Samsung 32" HDTV, it couldnt hold its balls to the 32" Sony HDTV (new style) for $1400. As for the Hitachi's they looked great, but the screen was too curved for what we like. We want a flat face, especially because in our room we have alot of windows to get reflections off of, and with a flat tv we wont be as bad.

We also kinda looked at 2 HDTV Projection tv's (RCA & Sony) for $1400 and $1700 respectively. Both were 52" screens and looked great with the HDTV input, but kinda crappy with regular coax/sat.

One sweet ass feature of the 32" Sony is the memory stick port right up front. Perfect for my new sony DSC-P9 camera. Haha, i even had it with me at BB and played with it for awhile. Freakin sweet feature.

HERE is the sony tv. What do ya think?

As for the Hitachi's
Make sure you are looking at the Ultravision line.

Well since you have upped the ante, go for the Sony if you like the picture. A moderately large screen is superior to a bigger one of lesser quality. Stick with HDTV and a progressive player and you can a mad home theater system.

Fantastic picture quality, but a very curved screen.
Besides the much better price on the Hitachi, whats the main differences btwn that one and the 32" Sony HDTV?

Well, for one the Hitachi has nearly 300 lines more resolution. (800 vs. 540)

Other than that, they seem very similar. Both have line doublers built in to "boost" lower resolution signals. The Hitachi is bigger and cheaper (Sonys overpriced IMHO) and will look better.

It's all a matter of whether you can deal with a non-flat screen. :)

One thing to keep in mind. Is the TV a true HDTV (built-in decoder) or is it HDTV Ready (add on decoder). There is no one agreed on standard as of yet. Myself, I am going to wait a year or two before I make the plunge. And when I do, it will (probably) be this line.

Were going for one WITHOUT the built in tuner for that purpose. In a year the tuner wont be $500 anymore and a standard will be decided on (we hope).

I've had my Ultravision for nearly 3 years and have never had a problem, nor have my parents with theirs. (it's newer than mine, very similar to the one you looked at)

I used to sell TV's and I can honestly tell you, Hitachi TV's came back the least, while Sony, Panasonic and RCA came back the most. (we never sold Samsung) The warranty on the TV is the same as any other.

I've had my Ultravision for 5 years. In the first year the case started rattling when the speakers hit low notes. They came out and fixed it and I have had no problems. I usually run it thru the home theater anyway. When I dial it in with my "Video Essentials" DVD, it still looks good as new.
