Sony's are NOT the best. :|

<==Disgruntled broken 2 YO Sony 36XBR400 owner.

sorry that you got a bad egg in the tens of thousands they produce...sh!t happens. The facts remain the same, XBR owns all.

Somehow I doubt that.

If you know the history of the 36XBR400, you should know Sony immediately came out with the XBR450 as a sudden replacement for it. They knew something was wrong with it yet when the XBR400s suddenly started going bad with the same exact problems, Sony did absolutely nothing for their customers. This is the last straw for me with Sony. It's not the first expensive Sony product for me to go bad. Take a look at ALL of their DVD players on audioreview.com. They are plagued with the same exact problem. My $600 S550D went bad exactly like everyone elses, with the C13:00 error.

I went to CC this past weekend to look at alternatives and was blown away by the 50" LCD Panasonic PT50LC13. If I can get that sucker for less than $2500 I'm going for it.

oh, well that's too bad your sony products havnt worked for you. Have had sony electronics for 7 years and counting...nothing has failed me yet. 🙂

Sony has had multiple issues with the xbr series. If you take the time to do some research instead of listening to what the clerk at Best Buy tells you, you will find that there are sets out there that have a better picture, more options, and a better price than a Sony.

To testify to the quality of the XBR series, we have hooked up 3 34" XBR's at work now, every single one has been bad. We ended up pulling the thing off the shelf and just writing it up if someone wants one. Otherwise we show them the 34" Toshiba Cinema Series, and people love it. Check out consumers reports. They even rate the Toshiba better. Pick up a copy of Audio/Video magazine (everyone who sells electronics reads it,) you will see very little about sony, and tons about Toshiba. This is because they review products honestly, and not based on what the manufacturer pays them.

That 34" Toshiba Cinema series is sweet. The HDTV picture looks excellent and is several hundred less than the 34XBR800.

Maybe best buy or circuit city will have some good deals on 32" or 36" tv's this weekend so I can pick one up.
