If she had waited until he was 14, this relatioonship would have been legal. Some analysts on television said the fact he was close to 14, that she was not in a relation of authority (e.g. as a student he could not have given legal consentment to sex with his teacher) and no real damage was done explains the more lenient sentence (maximum was 10 years in jail).

There are a couple laws in Canada that just make so much more sense to me then our laws here in America. Their leniency toward Marijuana being one of them, and this being the other. Completely retarded that people think the age for sexual consent should be 18, you can definetely argue that 14 is too young (as an opinion) but if anything it should be middle of the road and be 16.
