Okay, so i've been using 314.09 with a modded .INF file to install these on my lightning SLI cards. Using a custom resolution I was able to test out of the monitor overclocking function and unlock 85hz through a custom resolution, anyone else had luck with this?

Might be worth trying for anyone else using 2560x1440 or x1600 resolutions. There is a modded inf you can download from 120hz.net to make 314.09 usable on any 600 card, install and simply create a custom resolution for your desired resolution. Highest I could get on the u3011 and u2713HM was 85hz.

Oddly enough, I haven't seen a perceptible change in smoothness and I do still notice slight tearing but i'll give this a whirl with a few more games.

This could be really cool if it works. Actually getting to use more of your GPU's power.

I assume you set vsync and use settings that let you maintain 85fps?

Seems to be a no go for me. I was using adaptive vsync for 85hz, but I was still getting tearing - might be related to the internal monitor electronics; I can't notice a difference tbh.

Anyone else try this out?

I wonder how safe this it to do? I'm interested in trying it on my Dell u2711.

As with any overclocking there are risks involved.

Personally I used NVCP to do it on my 470 and was able to get 75Hz out of my screen, I was able to instantly see the difference.

I tried for more and started to get artifacts in my monitor that scared me a little so I returned it to 60Hz and have left it. I will probably buy a 120Hz screen now though, pretty much a tease for me!

Nice. IIRC doesn't some monitors even though they will accept >60hz would only output 60hz?

Too nervous to do this. Don't want to fry my screen, but 85FPS would be nice to have in BF3....

Naysayers will swear that there is no difference between 120hz and 60, let alone the 75 hz you tried out. But to us supposed super humans with super human eyesight you will be blown away by what 120hz has to offer.

Actually This would probably be what I would get if I were buying now

I remember one reviewer commenting on how this didn't seem to have any difference. I would imagine that's mainly due to whatever monitor you are pairing with the GPU.

I've been trying but my display (Samsung s27a850T) drops frames so motion is not fluid.

Got it to 85hz and vsync was holding a solid 85fps, but it was really displaying 60hz and dropping frames unfortunately.

Apparently most displays drop frames like this, would be nice to have a list of 1440/1600p displays that do oc as I'd get one.

I wonder if dell would void my warranty on my u3011 for something like this

I doubt they would honour it after hearing how it happened.

If this does kill panels I have a feeling monitor manufacturers are going to be getting some additional RMAs 'my screen just like died on me man'

In experimenting with the rash of korean monitors and supposed overclocking, the vast majority will not display 60 fps even when you feed them with a 120hz+ signal.

To check, you need something like refresh rate multitool that acts as a visual counter for the number of frames displayed - if you see every single bar show up, then your display is showing whatever signal you are feeding it.

Yeah Ryan mentioned this in his review of the Titan:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6760/nvidias-geforce-gtx-titan-part-1/6

Of course it goes without saying that just like any other form of overclocking, monitor overclocking can be dangerous and risks breaking the monitor. On that note, out of our monitor collection we were able to get our Samsung 305T up to 75Hz, but whether that’s due to the panel or the driving electronics it didn’t seem to have any impact on performance, smoothness, or responsiveness. This is truly a “your mileage may vary” situation.

I can't notice any difference @ 85hz on either of my dell IPS panels, probably due to internal monitor electronics. Shrug. Anyone else try this on a different IPS panel?

I found something very odd with these drivers. If I set fan speed to 70% or higher, my boost clocks are lower for some reason? I usually cruise my lightnings at 55-60%, but when I upped the speed to 70% my boost speeds in crysis 3 were 1050 (compared to the normal speeds of 1325-1350 depending). Needless to say I alt tabbed to figure things out and when I lowered the fan speed again - it was maximum boost again.

Very strange. Fan speed %'age is somehow tied to clockspeeds if you go past 70% or something. This is with afterburner 2.2.3, didn't do this with driver 314.07.

How do odd refresh rates translate with vsycn enabled? With something like 75hz, if your frame rate can't maintain 75 fps, does it drop to 37 in those instances?

When I tried it yesterday, vsync was approximately tied to refresh rate. So vsync was around 83-85 fps. There seemed to be more variation (not related to framerate), whereas vsync at 60hz is usually pretty steady. Adaptive vsync was also approximate to the higher refresh rate, although not quite as steady - similar to vsync on.

I still saw a ton of tearing and no perceptible smoothness increase so i'm not sure what to make of it. Maybe a different monitor would be a better candidate...I tried Guild wars 2 , batman: AC, SC2, and Diablo 3.
