3114 Raid Controller with Single Drives?

I have a DFI LanParty NFII Ultra B, and I'm currently running the onboard 3114 controller in "SATA" mode to support my two Maxtor SATA drives.

My question is: Can I safely change the BIOS setting to "SATA RAID", boot into XP, install the Raid version of the 3114 drivers, and continue to work with separate SATA drives, exactly as in the "SATA" configuration, without losing data or having something corrupted? Thanks.

If you are going to be using RAID-0 you will need to reinstall everything to get it to work. There is no way around this. If you are using RAID-1 you might be able to add the second drive and have your RAID controller build a RAID-1 array off of the first drive. I'm not 100% on that though.

I think the question you have is, can you use the sata raid connector on the motherboard as regular sata, without making them into a raid array, and the answer is (usually) YES. As soon as you boot XP, and add the drivers, both drives should be seen by XP as just regular drives.
