1. Who the hell needs a dining room set in their office? Are you hosting dinner parties during work hours? Is he personally feeding the homeless and poor who need HUD? I can understand an expensive leather couch, lounge chair, fancy tea service or hell even a bar cart. But a dining room set?

2. My dream office chair is a Herman Miller Eames Executive Soft Pad, and that'll run about $3K. I can get a decent Aeron chair for $1K. I can't imagine spending more than $5,000 on a chair.

3. Why does Candy Carson have any say in purchasing decisions by HUD? Does she work in procurement, purchasing or accounts payable? I think not. I don't understand how she had any say in this.

The tables are gorgeous and were in beautiful, perfect condition. Elderly, not exactly poor, couple died within weeks of one another. Family wanted nothing of theirs, so all auctioned off.

"Mrs. Carson and the secretary had no awareness that the table was being purchased," he told CNN last month.

An August email from a career administration staffer, with the subject line "Secretary's dining room set needed," to Carson's assistant refers to "printouts of the furniture the Secretary and Mrs. Carson picked out."
